Ben Murray Bruce gave his support for the Gender equality bill

Senator Ben Murray Bruce
The bill which was turned down on Tuesday by majority of the Senates on grounds of religious beliefs is said to receive a second hearing and senator Ben Murray Bruce has pledged his full support. See the tweet after the cut

It stated as follows "I support the Gender Equality #GEOBill. I was abroad with my senate committee when it came up, but i have gotten assurances it will be represented."
The bill is said to have been introduced by Senator Abiodun Olujimi representing Ekiti South and was designed to stop the ill treatment, degrading and mutilation of women. It is also meant to give women equal rights in marriage, education and job and tallies with the UN mandate to end gender discrimination and give women equal rights to vote and be eligible for all public offices without any restraints
Right now it is still hanging over religious sentiments and ethnocentrism but hope it gains momentum again since the likes of senator Murray Bruce, Ike Ekweremadu the deputy senate president has pledged their support.
Ike Ekweremadu gave his support to the bill by citing an example of how women are forbidden to eat egg or even touch the yoke from where he comes from saying those practices and beliefs had since changed with education. He concluded by saying that the countries that gives women equal opportunities are doing very well and that what is needed is time and education not necessary legislation
The senators who overtly criticized the bill were senator Sani Yerima of Zamfara state and Senate majority leader Ali Ndume on the grounds that it negates the principle of Sharia law and in disagreement with the Nigeria constitution
